Technology seen differently, for a better future in Africa
More recently, Kigali Attorneys Legal Consultants & Partners through its founding partner Louis GITINYWA, had the opportunity to participate to the MozFest House in Zambia. The topic of Mozilla festival 2024 was focused on togetherness and solidarity.
This year the Mozilla fest had more of 300 participants, and the participants were coming from a diverse group of media and law practitioners, activists, academics and artists, civil society actors, policymakers, and technologists.
The festival was held at the Lusaka International conference center, located within the Ciela resort, 15 minutes from Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.
Further the main topic for the Mozfest house 2024 was to reflect for collecting actions towards achieving trustworthy Artificial Intelligence (AI), a call to action that centers Africans in the pursuit of trustworthy AI systems. Especially given the current context of 2024, where half the world is going to the polls, safeguarding the integrity of elections is paramount concern for democracies worldwide.
Amongst the prestigious panelists invited to speak at the Mozfest House Zambia were Angela Oduor Lungati; the executive director of “Ushahidi”, a global nonprofit that builds tools to help people create solutions and mobilize communities on critical issues. During her allocution she delves into the multifaceted challenges posed by misinformation and disinformation in electoral process and explores strategies for promoting fairness, transparency and accountability.
During the interactive panel sessions, the different panelists point out the complex challenges related to #AI accountability, the panelists explores the ethical, legal and practical dimensions of holding AI systems accountable during times of conflict.
